fighting with the sky

Notes

se-smith asked: How many houses did you have to look at to find one you liked? Do you have (and are you willing to share?) any funny/horror stories from the experience of house hunting?

The funny thing is that my parents have been looking at condos for about three years; they have known this move was coming for a long time.  They have known that they were going to move to a condo where most of the living space is on the first floor (so when they reach their old age years, they won’t have to go up and down a bunch of stairs).  They/we only decided that this was officially the time to move back in January.

I probably looked at about 5-6 different condos with my parents, but they have looked at much much more.  It’s funny because the condo development that we moved into has been one that my parents have like since it was built 10 years ago and seriously liked since they started looking at condos 3 years ago.  But the condos that were for sale were never in a good location in the development — on corners or not enough parking (either in the driveway or the street) for 3 cars, etc.  So when this condo opened up, we were some of the first people to see it even before it was officially listed.

A funny/horror story: So, we were looking at this one condo that had this really inconvenient floor plan, wasn’t clean, and needed a lot of work done (my parents like fixer uppers, but that’s not what they were looking for at this point in their lives).  So my mom had to go the bathroom, so she used the one in the basement (which was really oddly laid out as well).  And then the toilet started to overflow and leak at the same time.  It was quite the event.  Needless to say, we didn’t think twice about that one!
