You know what I hate…
…the terms “pro-choice,” “pro-life,” and “anti-choice.” Maybe hate is too strong of a word, but I don’t really care for these terms. Each of these terms implies something negative about “the other side.” Yes, I personally, would like to imply bad things about the “pro-life” and/or “anti-choice” side, but I don’t necessarily think it’s fair — it’s more of a personal vendetta (right word?) for me.
Pro-choice and anti-choice both imply that people who do not believe in abortion do not believe in any sort of choice when it comes to unplanned pregnancy. Even if you decide to not have an abortion, there is still many choices that could be made — such as adoption, keeping the baby, etc.
The term that I really hate though, is pro-life. Because people who are pro-choice obviously don’t value life at all. I guess that’s why the term anti-choice is used, but I don’t really like that term either.
I don’t really have suggestions for terms other than these, these terms just rub me the wrong way. I don’t really like saying pro-abortion either, because that just makes me think that people think that everyone should have an abortion rather that just having the option of abortion available to everyone. I do guess that the term anti-abortion works though. I don’t see much wrong with that term…
